Gangs of Wasseypur-1 Review: A Realistic Depiction

Image
Credit: Google Gangs of Wasseypur Cast: Manoj Bajpai. Richa Chadda. Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Tigmanshu Dhulia. Jaideep Ahlawat. Huma Qureshi. Pankaj Tripathi. Rajkumar Rao. Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious gangster saga is a trippy outburst of vivid characters reeking of revenge, deep-seethed rivalries blended with an off-kilter soundtrack and clever dialogue. GoW is grand in terms of scale. Spanning over two generations, Kashyap has successfully managed to add depth to the story and soul to his characters.  As if on ecstasy, once the film begins, it refuses to slow down. In terms of storytelling, GoW is surely entertaining but isn’t fearless. At times it crouches and hides behind unnecessary montages and sub-plots that ultimately leave you a tad bit underwhelmed.  The film doesn’t disappoint but it also doesn’t satiate your hunger. The second part trailer has been attached at the end of the film. You come out of the theatre feeling anxious to know what’s going to transpire in the second part. C

Gumnaami Review

Image
Gumnaami (2019) Cast: Prosenjit Chatterjee. Anirban Bhattarcharya. Tanusree Chakraborty. The film is based on the Mukherjee Commission Hearings. The film shows the three theories trying to explain the death or disappearance of Subhash Chandra Bose. The film starts with Subhash Chandra Bose at the Congress Conference. A courageous Subhash disagrees. A very well researched docu-drama movie that soars off wonderfully, flies smoothly but lands hastily with a jarring note. Based on the Mukherjee Commission investigation into the mystery of Netaji's death and the theories suggested around it, the movie shows the historical events in flashback as the two counsels in the Commission argue about them. The propounder of the Gumnaami theory is Chandrachur Dhar (Anirban Bhattacharya) who puts forward his arguments before the commission with evidence. Netaji is played superbly by Prosenjit, who blends into the physicality and majestic aspects of the Heroic Freedom fighter with ease and is also

Tanhaji Review: A Well-crafted Period Drama

Image
Image Credit: Wikipedia. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is a well-crafted period drama starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kajol, Sharad Kelkar, Luke Kenny, and directed by the Bollywood debutant Om Raut. The film is a biography of Subedar Tanhaji Malusare the right-hand man of  Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj . The film depicts the heroism of Tanhaji and loosely portrays a picture of the times of the great Maratha ruler Shivaji.   Certain things straightway grab the attention while watching the film or even while watching the trailers and teasers: Ø   The lavishness of the sets and frames of the film, and the fact that it has been prepared for 3-D consumption also. Ø   The real-life couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol returning to the silver screen together after almost a decade. Ø   Saif Ali Kahn did look menacing as the foremost villain of the film. Ø   And finally, the film’s visuals.   Watching Ajay Devgn’s self-produced latest effort, one can realize that the actor-filmmaker’s

The film also has a cameo for Bhumi Pednekar.    From the onset, the film makes clear what it is about. The opening scene of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a throwback to the closing scene of DDLJ. Only this time, it was two guys, rather than the common conception of a guy and a girl and that grabs eyeball. The film looked different despite all the clichés. And it has lived up to this expectation to an extent.   Since time immemorial, love stories have always been depicted betwe
